Hi, I’m Shalini. Connector. People booster. Power shifter.
I am an executive coach, advisor and leader with two decades of expertise in education, nonprofits and the private sector. Because I have sat in so many different seats - I have been a teacher, a school system leader, a funder, an authorizer, a manager, a board member, and an advisor and consultant to public and private (Fortune 500) organizations - I come into coaching with many different lenses and familiarity with a range of leadership issues and contexts. While I have done many things across my career, the consistent themes are shifting systems to increase the equity of opportunity (and outcomes) for the most marginalized communities, and empowering people and teams to get there. This experience allows me to support leaders at the most senior levels of organizations, especially mission-driven ones, in navigating complex systemic challenges., with a particular focus on how race, gender and power play into leadership. I received my coaching training from the Teleos Leadership Institute, where I completed a PCC-level Coach Development Program. I have also been trained on Coaching Through Trauma by the Center for Trauma and Leadership.
I am also a first-generation Indian-American daughter of immigrant parents, wife, mom of three incredible children, long-time resident of Washington DC’s Ward 4 community. I currently serve on the boards of DC International School and SchoolTalk DC. In my spare time, you can find me with my family, in my garden, or attempting to play the piano at least as well as my 10-year-old.
